ISLABENTURA
Narrative Geography &
The Craft of
Scriptwriting
Commissioned by the Government of the Canary Islands for the screenwriting laboratory IsLABentura, we directed the art and animation for two consecutive editions. The objective was to conceptualize the territory as a living canvas where global cinematic stories are born.
TerritorialDeconstruction& Narrative Thread
Our art direction dismantled the writing process through two distinct narrative and formal approaches: ·
· Edition 1 (“What isn’t written doesn’t exist”): A highly cinematic piece simulating the writer’s mental journey. Emerging from the script pages, the physical scenery surfaces organically, guiding the viewer through literary creation.
· Edition 2 (“The Prota-scriptwriters”): Focused on the author physically traversing the landscape. We built a flat 2D universe honoring Saul Bass, leveraging traditional animation and illustrations by Carla Garrido to make the writer the protagonist.
· Graphic Synthesis: Driven by bold color blocks and heavy editorial sans-serif typography. The motion design system reframes the islands’ iconography away from conventional tourism tropes, ensuring a sophisticated institutional package. The outcome demonstrates long-term brand consistency, proving how motion design infuses a high-level cultural campaign with distinct artistic value.
